Helen Elizabeth Nash : ウィキペディア英語版 | Helen Elizabeth Nash Helen Elizabeth Nash (8 August 1921—4 October 2012) was the first African-American doctor at the Saint Louis Children's Hospital in 1949. ==Education and career== Nash was a graduate of Spelman College and studied for her medical degree at Meharry Medical College, graduating in 1945 and starting an internship at the segregated hospital, Homer G. Phillips Hospital, being the only hospital in St. Louis open to new African-American doctors. In 1949 she one of the first four African-American physicians to join the Washington University School of Medicine, being the only woman. She was part of the faculty of Washington University School of Medicine for 40 years. Nash was president of the Saint Louis Children's Hospital from 1977 to 1979. Nash retired as professor emeritus of Pediatrics in 1993. The Washington University School of Medicine established the Dr. Helen E. Nash Academic Achievement Award in 1996.
